HOT, HOT, HOT! - nuntium duocentesimum tricesimum quartum

Yesterday was fantastic in London.  We had a lot of fun in the British Museum.  I took 190 pictures, if you can imagine and that was in just four rooms.  Unfortunately the Roman collection is mostly on the third floor and there are skylights in (most of) those rooms.  It was a bit like greenhouse except with no plants and everyone else in the world there.
I had been in 2002 but was still staggered by the collection.  I could blather on and bore you with gobs of pictures of Roman glass but I won't.  But even I, and my daughters will tell you the contrary, was defeated by the weather and was ready to leave the museum when we did.  Usually you would have to drag me out of any museum with Roman stuff.
We had a marvelous dinner at Giotto which is between the BM and Tottenham Court Road station.
Here's my zabaglione, the dessert- yum!!!

And I tatted both on the way and back.  Still on the old thread and I think I might make it to the end of the round- here's hoping.  (Thank you, God's Kid, for the reassurance.  I'm very nervous about the two threads.)

I can't decide if I'm pleased the next round isn't available yet- because I'm not quite done or sad because I want to see it!

  1. Oh, how I wish I could have been there with you! The weather would have gotten to me very quickly. I don't last five minutes in the heat. Your doily is gorgeous! I have my fingers crossed that your thread will last to the end of the round!

  2. I am amazed that on holiday you are using every minute to enjoy yourself including tatting. The doily has now become international and it will be good to look back on the bits you did and where you tatted them - memories are built on such things. Yes we have a lot of Roman artifacts in the UK and still finding them buried beneath the ground! As you have discovered air conditioning is not as common as in the USA, but certainly as the years go by it is found more often than it used to be. Keep enjoying yourself

  3. I am glad you enjoyed London, the City of London (the square Mile) was tge original site for London, and there are still Roman parts to be seen if you know where to look. Having worked in the City I could have shown you. Confused about the City is were the financial side of London, where the Bank of England, the mansion house and the stock exchange is. Lots of really old buildings some are built on Roman ruins hence when they pull down anything the archology takes over and until they finish no building work can commence. It's the same in Bath, Canterbury, and other Roman cities.
You must have brought the heat with you as we have had a very wet summer so far, I left a comment for you on my blog.
I look forward to seeing what you do today.

  5. How ironic that there is a heat wave there for your visit! But how nice that you have a friend and tour guide to stay with! Can't believe you both went to Egypt several years ago and the museum was closed! And now I understand how you have the time to tat, but I couldn't have handled the large doily! Hope the weather cools down a bit!
