nuntium centesimum decimum quintum (115th post) happy and sad

I love getting mail, always have.  One of the more dreary things as an adult is getting all that other stuff in the mail. On the other hands there are wonderful things like this which balance the whole works!
I'm the lucky keeper of Angeline's book for the next few weeks.  Krystle sent along some of her gorgeous HDT and the loveliest motif was included too.

Then the sad-- well, it's not too sad really.  About two weeks ago, we took all of the 7th graders to northern Minnesota for a 3-day friendship retreat.  It's a lot of work but so rewarding and fun too.  This year's kids are really outstanding and made the whole thing even better than usual.  But on Valentine's day I was walking to the dining hall for our evening program and fell on the ice.  Fell hard and so fast.  Truly I did not know what was happening until I was down.  My hand hurt a lot.  And kept hurting until Tuesday morning when it hurt so bad I was almost in tears.  Off to my doc who x-rayed it- yay!  Nothing broken.  But to help with healing (maybe a damaged tendon), I get to wear this.
For 10 days,  really nothing to whine about but there won't be tatting unless it's all chains.  The thread catches on the velcro on the thumb for rings.
Maybe I'll get entirely caught up for school- bwahahahahaa!

  1. I am sorry to hear about your arm...I had to wear one of those things a few years ago and it certainly interferes with one's creative pursuits! Hope it heals well and quickly and that the pain is much less already!!!

    1. Haha! Ships passing in the night I'd say. Thank you for your kind words. Truly even after one day of wearing the brace, things were remarkably better. NOw if I could just type with it on!

    1. It's really okay, just uncomfortable and I wanted to make sure it wasn't broken. I think the 10 days will pass quickly!

  3. I feel your pain! Take care of yourself. I know you'll be tatting again soon. As for the schoolwork, can you believe I'm already planning for next year? I think it's a way of avoiding what needs to be taken care of this year! ;-)

  4. Wait . . . we have tatting on Saturday! Chains, chains . . . can we still do split chains? I REALLY hope it feels better :)

  5. Oh my! I definitely relate to falling on ice and going down in an instant! Memories of my 2002 ice skating fall resulting in two broken wrists - thankfully no surgery! I wondered why you told Fox you could only tat chains! So glad there are no breaks, but the tendon pain can be just as intense.

I have a copy of Angeline's remarkable book and treasure it for the incredible effort that went into it, as well as her wonderful collection of classic tatting patterns and techniques. I also have a precious tiny tatted butterfly on her note that accompanied the book back in 1994!

  6. Oh what a shame, I hope your arm heals fast, it's amazing just how much we use our hands and when you break or damage a hand then you realise just how much you can't do. I broke mine a few years ago as I was over 50 I should have had a bone scan which the new GP has found out and I am having a bone scan in ten days times,

I am looking forward to the book arriving soon so Fox has just told me.

Hope you have a good weekend
    Margaret
