nuntium quintum et quadragesimum (45th post) Cornelia's bell

the real motif #19
Well, if you read the pattern correctly from the start, then it goes pretty well.

Cornelia was kind enough to point out that initially there are 6 rings not 8!  I wish I could blame this on the pattern being in German but since the numbers were all numbers not words, I don't think I can get away with it.  I still goofed it up but you can see how it's really supposed to look here.  Gorgeous, don't you think?

What ever happened the lovely Quatrain, Frivole's pattern?  I don't know.  It's still stunning, I still like it but when I can squeeze out a minute to tat, I never pick it up.  I think it's because there's so little time during the school year for me and I'm desperate to see something complete, I like doing little things.  I've got my eye on a celtic pumpkin but don't have any orange thread.  By the time I get to ordering it, it will be November!  : )  Maybe next year...

Latin for today:  arbores nunc tam pulchrae sunt - The trees are so lovely now.

  1. Well, I think your little bell looks pretty much like the original! What about spraying it slightly and letting it dry on an egg (or other suitable object) to get more of the rounded shape at the top? It flares out nicely at the bottom. Pretty.

  2. Hi Michelle,
Your bell has become beautiful. I have my very carefully ironed something. (moist under a cloth!) I am glad that you came with my instructions cope.

  3. We learn from our mistakes and yet, we still keep making them! Or at least I do. Your next one will be perfect! I have Mark's pumpkin still as a UFO from a few years ago. You may well finish yours before I finish mine as I have no plans to do so this year. I will eventually but this isn't the time. How do you say..."good intentions" in Latin? (and I even had 2 years of Latin but we won't say how many years ago that was!)

  4. I have no idea how those of you who have jobs find any time for tatting at all!

You may not get some of your projects done, but you did complete this adorable 3-D bell designed by Cornelia, and you persevered! I have a great interest in 3-D tatting, so this caught my attention right away!

I've designed many 3-D bells during the past 20 years (haven't shown most of them on my blog yet), and I agree with Frivole that you should 'form' it over a shape and wet it a bit and let it dry. Most of my own bells (about 3" high) are tatted with size 30 thread, and they really have to be stiffened with a fabric stiffener, but you don't need to do that with this one. I enjoy giving my bells (decorated in Victorian style) to brides as keepsakes!

  6. I think you have done a lovely job, and it looks as good as the orginal, seeing the pattern was in german I think you have done well.
