dictum centesimum tricesimum primum (131st post) Lily

She was without a doubt, the best dog ever.

No more will she wait patiently in her bed on the floor for me to wake up and start thumping her tail the moment my breathing changes.

No more the silly doggy grin and dancing whenever the word "go" is mentioned.

No more will she lick/"nose" my elbow when I'm sitting at table in hopes of a quick pet.

No more will she wag during an entire walk, rare that they were.

No more the jingle of tags as she makes her way.

No more deadly silent waiting to pounce on unsuspecting mice or voles before the amazingly fast leap through the air.

No more will she warm my feet in the winter as we sit on the couch together.

No more will she snuggle up and bury her nose alongside me as I tat.

No more will she suffer in her stoic silence, unwilling to burden us with that information.

No more Lily.

resquiescat in pace, canis meus amicaque
I go back to bed and cry.

  2. Oh, this post breaks my heart. How sad that you have lost a beloved friend, but what a beautiful tribute to her. None of us ever wants to go through the loss, but we all subject ourselves to it for the love and comfort we get from our four footed friends. I am so sorry for your loss.

  11. When I pass, I hope someone will write as touching a eulogy for me.
They just don't live as long as we do. They wiggle into our hearts, become our source of nonjudgmental approval and love. Then they go to be with the angels.
I know this pain, too. It fades in time. But some always have a special place -- and should -- in your heart.
    God's Speed.
