nuntium nonâgêsimum quîntum (95th post) a little giveaway

I don't win a lot of things but I still feel ridiculously lucky.  However, I did recently win something.  Thanks to Ambitatterous, I went to the blog, literatehousewife and commented.  Blow me down, I won!

Here's the lovely basket:

The object of the basket is the book, Ruins of Lace by Iris Anthony.

I've read the book - I really loved the passion that one of characters expressed for making lace.  The biography for Iris Anthony says she is a tatter and I think the writing rings true.

That said, there were a number of parts of this book which I did not like.  Shall I tell you?  Or let you discover on your own?

I'm willing to share this book.  I will mail it (probably media rate) to anyone if you will promise to pass it along as well when you finish.  So comment if you're interested, and I'll pick someone on November 19th.  (Too bad about the basket though, the candle is burned, the dog ate the bone, I took the matches to school and the banana bread is slated for the weekend.)  : )

And don't forget to vote for tatting at the Tatting Corner.

  1. Oh Congrats! I would say, count me in, but I already have two books on my to read list, and I'm currently in the middle of 2 different books. (The Ring and The Hunger Games) It takes me FOREVER to read anything, because I never get the chance to just sit and read. But, I do enjoy it when I do get the chance.

  2. I would love to read it and pass it along.

About 20 years ago, I was told by a channeller that in a past life I had been a lacemaker in France in the 18th century! Whether I believe this or not is irrelevant - the idea of it is fascinating to me. I knew nothing of lace until 2009.

Since becoming a tatter, I have often thought of that session and I sometimes get a little shiver up my spine!

    1. Oooh, that is fascinating. So far, it doesn't look like there are too many takers, I think we can send it along to everyone!

  3. Congratulations on your win, I am too far away to post the book but I am sure it's interesting, I found out some years ago after my grand mother died that she used to tat although I never saw her tat and some of the old pieces I have must be hers, it was an old aunt who I used to watch when she came visiting and she said she would teach me, but she died so I ended up teaching myself. You could say tatting is in my blood from an early age.

    1. We might put you on the end of the list!

I love family history with tatting so wonderful, it's one of the reasons I'm so pleased that my daughters have learned.

    1. It is an interesting book, I'm not sure I liked it but it was interesting. Maybe we will put you on the list last and then you can have as much time as you would like with it. I admire that you've read whole books in another language! I've read some Latin ones (of course) but I'm especially proud of muddling through an Italian children's book on my own. (Took forever!)

  5. Congratulations on your win! I know I went to the site, but did I enter? I'm not sure! I'd love to be put on the list of possible readers, and I'd be happy to pass it along when finished. Wouldn't it be fun to include a paper bookmark for each reader to sign? We could see where the book has been. I really get into stuff like that! ;-)

  7. Congratulations on your win! It looks to have had some wonderful things in it. Between what you and Karen have said about the book I don't think I want to read it. I think it's cool that it's about lace. I haven't been doing a lot of reading lately, too busy with other things. My problem is when I do read I don't usually put it down until it's done!

  8. Well, it is short. Maybe it's a good book? I enjoyed some of the characters but found others reprehensible (probably with good reason). Maybe I'm too simple or too Pollyanna to want this kind of stuff in my entertainment. I feel bad to have turned you off but I'm careful with what I recommend too.
