La Cossette shuttles!!!
And in other news, there are 6 or maybe even 7 new tatters in the world! Two weeks ago, we took our 7th graders on a retreat in the northern part of Minnesota and during the free time, I offered tatting lessons. Six kids learned and three were very serious about it and kept tatting every free minute, even on the bus home and when we came back to school after the long weekend, one of them had completely emptied her shuttle even. Yesterday we had "tatting club", and one girl brought her grandma who has always wanted to learn so that makes SEVEN.
giggle.
Bravo! More tatters are always needed! Love the new shuttles!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all counts :-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful for you Michelle! So exciting to teach new tatters. I love the start of your tatted piece in the photo above, what will it be?
ReplyDeleteJust a little snowflake which is in my head and I can tat when finished with what l'm doing but still at a basketball game or in a meeting!
DeleteOh yay, more tatters! Pretty shuttles.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shuttles as always.

Beautiful shuttles!! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd fabulous news about new tatters!!! :) Keep on tatting with them!!! :)
New shuttles are the best! Like YOU!
ReplyDeleteAw shucks!! Thank you!
DeleteAlthough I have tried to teach people to tat, never had much success - if any! So really do admire the fact that you have been successful in your teaching and there are more tatters in the world. You must have a well trained husband too getting you the right Christmas present!
ReplyDeleteThis post totally made my heart sing...but please count that as 8 new tatters because I too have just learned to tat and I am totally hooked! I love it when the younger generation learns something that keeps the old traditions alive and I have a huge amount of respect for teachers so thank you so much for what you do!!
ReplyDeleteWell aren't you sweet? Hurray for you! Now let's see some pictures of what you've done!
DeleteYour shuttle are sweet and I know that is a gift that you really wanted too :) he got it right :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such delightful news! Wonderful to see the younger generation express an interest in this beautiful craft! I'm curious to know what your method was to teach the flip. Did you start with the two-color chain? Whatever method you used, you obviously had success!Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAnd what beautiful shuttles! I love my La Cossette shuttle, and marvel at the perfection of it.
Thank you! I do now teach with the two color chain and very rarely does it fail. Something I do - if I can- is I will "be" the left hand so that the student does the work of the right while I do the left. We do that for about 15 times and then we switch and I do the right. It always surprised them at how hard I pull (which isn't really hard) and then they get the "flip" feeling. After about 15 times, then I let them do it all together. Then, I have them "be" both hands. Once they're comfortable with that, then we start doing the second half of the stitch and making "pi" symbols.
